The NorcalMLK Foundation’s International Colloquium Series begins at The Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven).
KU Leuven is the oldest Catholic university in Europe and possesses one of the world's leading theology faculties. Hosted by the Center for Liberation Theologies, the colloquium honors Black religious experience as a resource for building global solidarity and ethical community.
The event is shaping up to be a rich, cross-cultural dialogue on one of the most urgent questions of our time: what does community mean in an age of uncertainty? Framed around that theme, the event blends academic rigor with public engagement.
The event is structured around two key components: a morning research colloquium featuring KU Leuven scholars and an afternoon public lecture with reception. The morning session invites critical engagement, as NorcalMLK’s scholars respond directly to emerging research. The afternoon opens the dialogue outward, inviting the public into the exchange.
The scholars anchoring the event include Valerie Miles-Tribble, D.Min., Ph.D., Professor at Berkeley School of Theology; Raymond Carr, Ph.D., President of the Society for the Study of Black Religion; and Aaron Grizzell, Ph.D., Executive Director of the NorcalMLK Foundation and ICS convener. Each brings a distinct disciplinary lens—ethics, systematics, womanist theology, and philosophical ethics—creating a layered, interdisciplinary exchange.
These sessions are available on-demand.
