As part of the NorcalMLK Foundation's MLK2022 focus on voting rights, Bay Area congressional leaders sent an unmistakable message in support of passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act through Congress.

As part of the 2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance events in San Francisco, the NorcalMLK Foundation partnered with the San Francisco Labor Council and its associated labor councils in the Bay Area to urge our congressional leaders to urge Californians to support the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act currently before the U.S. Congress.

As the headwinds of voter suppression continue to blow through many of the nation's state legislatures, constituents are urged to continue to focus on and fight for passage of voting rights legislation that ensure every American citizen equal access to vote. Current legislation that has been passed and is before many state legislatures has been specifically designed to suppress the vote of African American, Latino, and populations of color.

Bay Area Congressional leaders, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, delivered video messages during the MLK2022 events urging passage of these two pieces of legislation.
