Dwight N. Hopkins

The Alexander Campbell Professor at the University of Chicago

Professor Hopkins teaches classes connecting what it means to be human with wealth or the humanities and business.

Some classes include: Martin King & Malcolm X; Black Ownership of Wealth (a three course series); Social Entrepreneurship; Can Capitalism Do Good?; contemporary models of theology, and black and global liberation theologies. He is interested in the ethical relation between venture capital and educational technology and the role of Artificial Intelligence in that connection. Professor Hopkins founded a nonprofit startup of 14 countries — Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, Japan, India, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Ghana, England, Cuba, Jamaica, Brazil, and the USA. The focus was youth/student education and women’s advocacy. He began his teaching career in Silicon Valley and saw the ethical venture capital and educational technology possibilities while in Chicago.
