The 2027 King & Faith Series celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Coltrane with the Saint John Coltrane African Orthodox Church in San Francisco.
This one-of-a-kind opportunity provides the Bay Area community with the chance to celebrate the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane's birth at the Saint John Coltrane African Orthodox Church in San Francisco. Attendees will be energized by the sacred witness of the Saint John Coltrane Church tradition, while taking part in its world-class music and encouraging message. Participants will also learn about John Coltrane's spiritual awakening and the sacred commitment that marks his seminal work "A Love Supreme" and the civil rights connection between jazz and King that helped to lead the movement for freedom and justice.
As part of the celebration, we will experience the piece "Alabama" composed by Coltrane in homage to the 1963 bombing of four little girls at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Brimingham, Alabama.
