John Jennings (Kindred, a Graphic Novel, The Parable of the Sower) moderates this enlightening conversation with religious scholar Yvonne Chireau (Swarthmore), Rita Lucarelli (U.C. Berkeley), and Alize Jama-Everett (Box of Bones, The Liminal People). Together they will delve into the portrayal of Black religion across time, from ancient traditions to contemporary practices. Discover how comics provide a unique platform to examine the spiritual beliefs, rituals, and cultural significance within Black communities. As we bridge the past and present, we'll reflect on the portrayal of faith, deities, and the intersections of spirituality with social justice in these vibrant narratives. Join us in celebrating the diversity and depth of Black religious experiences as portrayed in the world of comics.
