The NorcalMLK Foundation is presenting two new Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Services for East Bay residences.
Downs Memorial United Methodist Church in Oakland, California, and Pilgrim Christian Church in Castro Valley, California, will host Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Services for the East Bay community. The services will each feature a distinguished guest speaker, whose addresses serves to reflect on Dr. King's teachings and to inspire positive change.
Pilgrim Christian Church in Castro Valley will welcome Dr. Raymond Carr, Ph.D., as the guest speaker. Dr. Carr is president of the Society for the Study of Black Religion, the oldest and most prestigious gathering of scholars and theologians in the world. And he is director of the Codex Charles H. Long Papers at Harvard University, where he currently serves as research scholar.
Downs Memorial United Methodist Church will welcome Dr. Eric Lewis Williams, Ph.D., as its guest speaker. Dr. Williams and the director of the Office of Black Church Studies and assistant professor of theology and Black Church studies at Duke University. He is the former curator of religion at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
The addresses establish partnerships between the NorcalMLK Foundation and Downs Memorial United Methodist Church and the foundation and Pilgrim Christain Church.
